  • It’s all about the Backstreet Boys

First, let’s jam a little Acoustic Ninja, Trace Bundy. This guy is freakin’ sick!

Also checkout Trace’s absurd version of Pachelbel’s Canon.

Next, something I’m told is all over the media but I’ve never heard about, the Chinese Backstreet Boys. These guys are absolutely hysterical:

  • Honey Bunches of Oats is Back!!!

My friends, today is a great day. On a whim, as I occasionally do, I picked up a box of Honey Bunches of Oats. If you are a longtime Songoose reader, you may remember my Open Letter to Post Cereals, in which I informed the company that although HBoO is the single greatest cereal ever created, that I would “not buy another box of Honey Bunches of Oats until [they] stop using Partially Hydrogenated Oils. Period.”

(It should be noted that HBoO had less than 0.5 grams of trans fat per serving, which allowed them to claim 0 grams trans fat on the ingredients list, but that doesn’t make the use of hydrogenated oil right.)

Anyhoo, Post has finally relplaced the hydrogenated oil with plain old vegetable oil — trans fat free. I can now enjoy the best cereal ever made again — my mouth is salivating for tomorrow morning already!

Interestingly, I never received a response from Post (which I always found strange). But perhaps my voice among the many contributed to this great change. Thanks Post.

  • Note to a friend about tasty Franziskaner Weiss Beer

Franziskaner WeissSo last Sept @ Oktoberfest there was a brand represented that brought universal praise: Franziskaner Weissbier. Then, at the Main Line festival there was a Spaten tasting and part of it included the company’s corporate video (starring a well-coiffed-and-spoken mod German), touting the merging of Spaten and Franziskaner – both well-respected München beers (Spaten holds the honor of being the first beer tapped to hearld the beginning of Oktoberfest each year).

Being a big fan I was still surprised to see Hans’ video about “gaining market share for the Spaten and Franziskaner family” manifested at a beer store a couple of weeks ago with $22 (24x12oz) cases of Franziskaner. I’m of the opinion that Franziskaner far outshines Hoegaarden for summer weissbiers, but cases of Hoegaarden are ~$35+. Just had a Franziskaner tonight with dinner and I gotta tell you it’s sublime. And for $22/case it’s a total bargain. Highly recommended especially for summertime – it’s a light wheat that’s full of flavor but goes great with an orange or lemon garnish. Also, there’s a cheerful monk on the label and that counts for something in my book.

Note: the $22 case may have been a random promotion but wasn’t marked that way – online Hoegaarden and Franziskaner are about the same price. Still tasty beer though.
Update: I’ve seen $4/case Rebates for Franziskaner in three different locations.

  • It’s Kentucky Derby Time

I really wanted this video of Seattle Slew winning in ’77, but someone took it off YouTube.

Because of this, I instead bring you a slightly different Must See YouTube Thursday: Stewie the Cat exposing his butt.

  • 40-Year Old Virgin Music

Just checked out the DVD for the 40-Year Old Virgin, and whoever did the music for that movie should get some kind of award. The best two scenes of the movie are when Andy gets the “box o’ movies” and lights some candles to Lionel Ritchie’s “Hello”, and the chase scene to Asia’s “Heat of the Moment” (which, by the way, ties in nicely to the poster in Andy’s apartment) . Just the perfect songs for these scenes… almost like the use of “Fortunate Son” in Forest Gump.

  • Delmon Young Video

In case you haven’t seen it yet, Tampa Bay minor leaguer Delmon Young doesn’t take well to being ejected from the game:

  • Oh, A-Rod!

It’s must see you tube thursday! And, although I promised myself I would stop pimping videos from Deadspin, this one was way too good to pass up:

(It really doesn’t get any better than A-Rod acting like an ass.)
