5 Thoughts on NCAA First & Second Rounds

1) Adam Morrison is Annoying
And overrated. Ok, so perhaps I haven’t seen him play all that much, but I expect better things when I hear the “Larry Bird” comparision being thrown around. Morrison is a baby, and he plays more like Dirk than Larry, meaning he’s a gunner who can really score, but I’ve yet to see him pass, play D, and make other players better like Basketball Jesus.

2) Brandon Roy is the Best Player in the Tournament
I’m still kicking myself for not believing in U-Dub this year. I wasn’t sure Roy was tough enough to prove himself on a national stage, but he proved me wrong in the first two games. Like Morrison, Roy can score from anywhere on the court, but unlike AM, he passes superbly and generally makes the rest of his team better every trip. If you haven’t seen him yet, make it a point.

3) Memphis is Playing Better than any #1
I was sure that the Tigers would be the first top seed ousted, but they played the best of any in the 2nd round. (Just stifling defense.) I loathe Calipari and everything he stands for, but his team seems ready to play. They may, however be held back by the lack of a true star to carry them through the tough times. Most great teams have that. (Go Braves!)

4) Upset Bonus is Key in your Pool
It isn’t really helping my pitiful effort, but it makes it much more fun!

5) Deadspin is Key for Tourney Coverage
My new favorite site.
