{"id":222,"date":"2005-05-08T17:55:33","date_gmt":"2005-05-09T01:55:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/songoose.com\/?p=25"},"modified":"2025-07-22T18:38:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T18:38:00","slug":"the-decemberists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/archive.mikemadaio.com\/?p=222","title":{"rendered":"The Decemberists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve really been digging The Decemberists&#8217; recent release, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?tag=madaio-20&#038;path=tg\/detail\/-\/B0007M22S4\">Picaresque<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lead singer Colin Meloy&#8217;s unique voice (sorta similar to Vertical Horizon&#8217;s Keith Kane) combines interestingly with the band&#8217;s lush, grandiose sound, creating something that sounds like an amalgam of Death Cab for Cutie and Matthew Sweet. <\/p>\n<p>I particularly enjoy &#8220;We Both Go Down Together&#8221;, a dramatic, literate pop-rocker. &#8220;The Engine Driver&#8221;, which is getting a good amount of play on local station WXPN, is also a quite catchy.<\/p>\n<p>Meloy&#8217;s voice can grate after awhile, and &#8220;The Mariner&#8217;s Revenge Song&#8221; is especially trying, but overall this is one of the year&#8217;s best so far.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve really been digging The Decemberists&#8217; recent release, Picaresque.
